Use Unusual Colours
It doesn't always have to be red and green for christmas. For a striking contemporary look, try a monochromatic colour scheme with black, white and silver.

Mini Candleabras 5.00 each with Black Rose Tealights 4.50 or a set of six and Dog Salt and Pepper pack 6.00.
Another striking trick is to stick to one metallic theme and the choose table linens to contrast and co-ordinate with this look. It is probably easier to choose silver than gold as you are much more likely to have silver cutlery..if so Greys and Granites work well as contrasting colours.
In this illustration a granite Napkin 3.50 each has been tied with SIlver Ribbon and compliements the silver cultery and Silver Bevelled Edge Charger 3.80 each for a consistent and striking look.
Use Ornaments to add shine to individual Place Settings
Tree decorations and other decorative ornaments add life and height to your table...

Baubles on the Table
Christmas Baubles are a cheap, colourful and fun way to update your table for Christmas. Choose Baubles with your colour scheme in mind- co-ordinate with Napkins and flowers for a tied-together look.

Add Colour
For a quick update to your table, try adding one colour. Start with a neutral backdrop with a white tablecloth, plates and candles, and silver cutlery, napkin rings and candlesticks. Then add in one vibrant colour to tie the look together. Try placing Copper Napkins at each setting and Orange Gerberas in vase in the middle of the table, or Royal Blue Napkins and Irises.
Here a Cerise Napkin and Cerise Roses are used to tie the look together and brighten the table.

Add Some Sparkle
Candles always create a magical atmosphere. Add slender candlesticks to your dinner table to cast a flattering glow across your guests.
For added effect, add in tea lights in low cut glass holders and scatter across the table. The candles will be reflected against the bevelled edges, adding an extra twinkle to your table.
Here thin globe stem candlesticks are used in a table arrangement to add height and drama.
Amazing Tables Products shown in this arrangement: Navy Napkin 3.50, Navy Runner 14.50, Diamond Napkin Rings 25.0 set of 4, Diamond Place Card Holders 21.00 set of 4, Cut Glass Tealight Holders 5.00, Small Globe Stem Candlestick 21.00, Medium Globe Stem Candlestick 25.00, Silver Losenge Vase 50.00
Avoid using scented candles on your dinner table. They will compete with the aromas of the food and often overpower them.
Care Of Linen
Amazing Tables sells Linen Napkins and Tablecloths because they add a luxurious feel to any dinner table. They are also a good investment over time, because they wash well and if cared for will last for many years.
Picture shows Linen Napkin in Baby Blue 3.50, White Linen Tablecloth 49.00 and Silver Plated Napkin Ring 9.00 for 4.
To wash linen use a gentle detergent and avoid brightening agents or bleach which will distort the colour of the linen.

To iron linen, best results will be achieved if the linen is damp. On coloured linen iron on the wrong side of the cloth. Stretch the damp cloth into its correct size and shape before you begin, and use a steam iron. If the Linen has dried out completely, try spritzing with water.

Picture shows Linen Napkin in Baby Pink 3.50 each folded into a drinking glass which has been tied with a ribbon to match the Napkin. This is a pretty and inexpensive way of adding to your table.
Add humour....but just a little
It is a good idea to have a small humourous talking point on the table. Our rule of thumb is to set a table using neutral china and cultery, and then add some colour (usually Napkins) A stunning Focal Point (normally a Statement Vase) and finally to add something a little quirky or unusual to catch the attention. Don't go overboard here, one item is great, but too many can be a little wearing...
Quirky Dog Salt and Pepper Holders 6.00 per set
These oversized chocolate truffle candles, 3.60 each (assorted designs) are one of our best-sellers. Great for bringing in on a tray with coffee and chocolate after the meal, they add a smile to any face.
Seating Arrangements
It is a kindness to your guests to spend some time thinking about seating arrangements before they arrive and placing Name Cards at each setting. It saves any awkwardness as guests come to the table. A simple way to do this is to cut out strips of paper to write guests names on and a large piece of paper in the shape of your table. You can then experiment with different settings easily.
Apple Placecard Holders 12.00 for a set of 6
If you have a guest who doesn't know many people, make sure you seat them next to yourself or someone else who can bring out their sparkle. Feel free to disregard cliched boy-girl-boy arrangements and invent your own rules. If you are worried your dinner might get off to a frosty beginning, try squashing people together slightly at the table – this sounds strange but often works! |
