We recognise that things don't always go to plan....

 

"To make up the numbers at a recent dinner party, I invited a chap my husband had recently become friends with. I thought that he might get on well with one of my female friends from the gym who was newly divorced and a bit miserable. Unfortuantely, when they both arrived we found out that they had been married to each other and had a particular messy divorce last year. It was a very quiet evening.....:

"My worst moment came when, with 9 hungry people in the living room waiting to be fed, I opened the oven to find I had put the grill on instead of the oven. For four hours I had been grilling a roast pork joint which was now burnt on top and otherwise completely raw. We ended up eating Crispy Roast Duck from the Chinese with Sage and Onion stuffing, mashed potatoes and boiled carrots"

"My Aunt went to a very well-to-do dinner party in the 1970's. For desert the hostess served fresh raspberries. My aunt looked down into her bowl and saw that the fruit was crawling with maggots. Not one to make a fuss, she poured cream liberally over the lot and ate it. She still can't look at a raspberry now without feeling sick"

"A late guest arrived at my Christmas diner party just as I was taking the Turkey out of the oven to rest. I went to answer the door and when I came back into the kitchen with my guest, we found my Labrador Retriever tucking into the Turkey which was now on the kitchen floor. We ate all the trimmings....without any turkey"
